Have Mercy

That title makes me think of a song. I just realized how long it has been since I blogged. Someone needs to whip me. I have lots of good excuses (two day jobs, writing deadlines, painting commissions and closing week of husband's play) but the real problem has been my internet. I've been paying 70.m for an aircard that works like crap and now after YEARS and YEARS of using this, they started charging roaming. This card was grandfathered in to the free unlimited everything. Well, I didn't mind the slow internet before cuz it was what it was. But they're going to charge roaming for a netflix movie that we can't watch half of cuz the playback time is too slow? Get real. So I've cancelled that card (not officially because I want more time to pay the bill which I'm afraid to look at) and it quit working lik 75% of the time. Found new bundle thingy, but have to do it in steps cuz of money. So, should have internet at home by middle to end of October, depending on installation stuff.

We're getting Satellite internet :D yay! Will be good and fast all the time. NO more crap from towers down and stuff. Although, sounds funny to me that we're getting satellite internet when there's a satellite due to fall out of the sky, yanno?

Anyways, I have had trouble with my borrowed laptop. Fixed for most part, but I lost my notes on the fantasy story I'm doing for Splintered Lands, which is worst than losing the story that I'd already written (except for one glorious scene. I think the original word descriptions and pacing was better than my rewrite, but ce la vie. Anyhoo, I've re-written over 6k already. only 90k more to go :P Also need to rework part of a short, but I figured out how I can do it without changing the flavor when I reread their information. I'm excited! I keep forgetting to download the ongoing to a jumpdrive, so should be getting on that as well. ON top of that, I've had another painting commissioned!

We've had a few spider bites, the worst on my husband recently again, a bit of asthma trouble, but otherwise, we've been doing alright. My kids are now excited about the internet stuff even though it's a little ways away. We'll be able to have more than one computer on the internet at a time!! yes!

So, after you've whipped me and scolded me, you going to forgive me for taking too long to blog?? Please?? I did do a short update on my website, http://www.leonajbushman.com/ so does that count? lol It feels good to be back in the writing mode even if I can't share my triumph's and angst with the social world while doing it. I sure miss twitter...trying to do it on phone, but that stinks :P

How've you all been??? Anyone getting any wonderful writing or painting done??

Me, I guess

It's been a long rough week. Most of you know why I disappeared, only posting medical updates on daughter with little in between on twitter. But here's a short synopsis of what's been happening.

MY MIL wakes me up Sunday morning. My ex and Ashley, my daughter, her boyfriend, has tried to call me. Ashley's in hospital. Severe blod clot. The ER doctor had admitted her and the plan was to keep her on cuemadin (god knows the correct spelling. I think I used about 100 different ones during my updates!) let the blood thin until it flows through the clot. She presented with a PURPLE LEG SWOLLEN FROM THE HIP DOWN. *breathe*

Pause for a bit of info dump here: My daughter is 19. The ER doc and the one that came in the next day in the afternoon(that was a bitch for us. Mamma grizzly was getting frayed along the edges.) were going to leave her with a huge clot with risk of stroke, yada yada, and just try to move a little blood. The hospitilist even said, the clot won't go away, the blood will just move through it. Let's just say by the time the hospitilist arrived, they had a consult request.

I asked the doctor about the results of the ultra sound and she was like I didn't see that part. I just smiled with a lot of teeth when she said she'd look again as she got ready to consult. See, I happen to have an uncle who's specialty is in vascular field. She was forced to consult. That evening she came back and said a surgeon would be in. He came about a half hour after her.

You could tell it was one doctor coming in as a favor for another at first. Although he never treated us like idiots. His questions seemed more, "If we do surgery, what are some of the risk factors," that kind of thing. Then he looked at her leg. The if became when (tomorrow, which was Tuesday) and he started going over stuff with us.

She had four surgeries (which are actually called procedures cuz they never used a "knife" lol but same difference to my daughter. They were doing stuff inside her body with things that didn't belong there...) and it turns out she has May Thurners (again with the spelling) and the thinning process they were originally using would not have helped her half as much and likely would have resulted in something bad happening and the inability to have children. After two days of ultra sound being used at the heart of the clot, they still had to use two stents to get clear through the clot part that wouldn't go away, even with thinnners.

The treatment as she ended up getting will give her a chance at having kids in the future, and resolved the problem as best as modern medicine is capable. She's recovering nicely to the point that she's back at arguing with her mom :D

Believe me when I say this is a quick synopsis. So much drama happened... Oh well. For now, there's the update LOL

Hopefully, I can get back to my writing.

Friday Excerpts

I don't know what to do for today's excerpts. The last time I thought it was Fri, it was like tuesday or something LOL That's when I decided I needed to take some time off. I wrote when I had a post, missed writing a post because of screaming 2 yo. It's not called the terrible twos for nothing.

I've been very busy. I've edited the Damian Series. Again. Will be doing another round soon. I'm going to add about 20k to it. A lot of it world building. We'll see where that gets me. I'm currently working on a short story for Splintered Lands. I've finished it, but now await input from my critique partner and husband. Since it's fantasy, my husband does well as an editor :) When it's posted on their site, I'll post a link on here, and try to remember how to make a permanent link on the side. Carrie made the The Handbook to Writer Secret Society one, so I can't claim credit for it. And if it's not working, it is my fault. Sigh.

I've found a couple new possible homes for stories that need a bit of polishing, but I have this new shiny. Yes, boys and girls, I'm still going strong on my Gal Friday Noir. It's just rolling off the tongue-so to speak :P were at 43865 words, despite the hellacious weeks I've had since starting it. Of course, I wanted it finished by the Ides of March. That didn't happen. I got very sick a week into the whole plan and splat went my plans. I did get a short erotica written for a contest, edits done on both the Gal Friday and the Damian Series, as well as a quick run through on some other things.

So what to post for today's excerpts? Ah, I know. A short story called Ulfric's Mate. I wrote this last summer. This is the first however many paragraphs. enjoy!

The Ulfric's Mate

His black fur rippled in the wind, gleaming under the blue rays of the full moon. He lifted his nose in the air, sniffing for hunters. Getting caught in wolf form was not on his list of things to do before he died. In fact, being caged might kill him.
He put his nose down to the ground. He had her scent. At first, she'd been hard to follow, but her scent had grown stronger the deeper into the evergreens they were.

As soon as he realized it, he slowed down his hunt. His instincts told him it was a trap. He still had to track her down. She'd killed three pregnant women in his pack.

As a detective, Nolan Littlebull needed to do things by the book. As head of the pack, he had other obligations. Nights like tonight brought his dual personalities together. He possessed the evidence against her. Problem was, she'd committed the crime in wolf form. The authorities were looking for a stray pack, or someone with pet wolves. He knew they were wrong.

It wasn't a stray pack. It was a faction that had split from his pack a hundred years ago. She'd crossed their demilitarized zone and killed on his territory. The challenge had to be met. He growled in frustration. If she'd done it openly, he would've personally met the challenge the first time.

Now, the human authorities, animal control activists and half the damn world were aware of the killings. He stopped behind a large pine and crouched down in the undergrowth there. They were on the Yakama Reservation, the restricted lands.

Smart move by Roxy Takheal to lead him out here. If something happened to him, it would be attributed to the wild wolves and coyotes. He'd be found naked and ravaged by canine teeth. He shook his head. How the majority of the human race continued to deny the existence of another realm in their world constantly amazed him.

He had no choice. He had to go on. Watch his step and his back. But he couldn't let her get away with murdering those under his protection. He felt the blood lust of his beast swell. That side had no problem with the plan of chase and attack. It was his human instincts that were calling for caution. Was he thinking too much, or was it a trap set by those who didn't know his kind?

Day 14

Holy cow. I forgot that I had internet troubles so the friday one did not post. I completely spaced it yesterday. Was busy coming out my ears. However, despite the business of grocery shopping, clothes shopping (which I hate!), and dating and all that entails (my husband got me clothes and hair dye LOL) I still managed to write Fri-Sat. I'm just getting started for tonight, so not looking to accomplish a huge amount.

I did, however, have a good date with my husband :) We have been doing better at making time for each other than in the past decade. Maybe we will truly make it to the next decade marker.

My current word count is 26,663 and my heroine is recovering from her demon induced heart failure. What will she find out? First person she sees is the hero's mother. Will she figure out the true evil before it's too late???

Can the hero save her from a fate that makes death look like a walk in the park? Stay tuned for next time on what's my story :D

Day 8 and 9

As I said in yesterday morning's blog, my son burned his hand. If you've ever gotten a cut or sore on your hands, particularly the forefinger and thumb, then you know that it makes it difficult to impossible to snap/button jeans. What did that mean to me/us?

It meant my 9yo couldn't do his own pants anymore, so I spent day sewing yesterday. I made him two pairs of pants with elastic waist and pockets. I now have orders for plenty more for rest of fam who are a bit jealous lol

Today, I wrote 2k words. Then went grocery shopping, made dinner, etc. I came back to do a bit more work, but uploaded my nanowrimo. When I got there, is saw my word count was over 18k!! I almost cried. My WIP is now a little over 19...

Sigh. Oh well. Maybe I accidently erased more than I thought... Or maybe I'm crazy and can't remember. After all, it has been 2 days o.o.

As of this time, my word count is at 19528. I'm ahead of nanowrimo schedule, but way behind my personal schedule. I need at least 21k to be on track of the 3k a day, 5 days a week. More if I want to make the 70k mark. Sigh.

dkjklsdfajkl;sdfajkl;sdf;sdfajkl;sdfajkl;sdfajkl;sdfaj'sdfakl'sdfa'sdfa'k'sdfa'sdfasdfa sdfakl;sdfa'kll

There, I feel better. Thank you. I have like thirty funny stories I thought to tell then forgot. Maybe I'll remember them soon :) Well, off to write some more. How is everyone else's week going?

Day four

Yep, the fourth day already.

Stats for day four:

Start: 9100
current: 10235
also found a good plot element to make Hero more likable and stronger. He was kind of washy. Most of my male characters start that way. It's my women characters that come out of the box knowing what they want :)

Also added nearly 1k to fantasy and sent off query. Found few small errors and fixed them. Keep your fingers crossed. I'm starting to feel down. Means I need to eat something and play with my kids :)

Target word count for nan is around 5100 for the fourth day, but I want to be ahead! I want to take a day off here and there. Plus, 70k isn't going to happen without some serious word count sessions.

I'm having a lot of trouble turning off the inner editor on this one. I keep stalling. I may go back to the end and start writing it backwards again! Who knows. For now, I need sustenance.

Day 2

So, day 2 started out ingloriously for me. I woke up, pushed the kids out the door to the bus, and tried to sleep for another three hours hoping eyes would quit feeling like sandpaper. What happened was my left arm went numb and I had chest pain. When this continued for half an hour, I started getting worried. I'm still not sure if I'm ripe for heart attack (I sure hope not because traditionally it has been the only organ not giving me fits!) or if it was a combination of asthma and carpool tunnel. My inhaler helps, but since shortness of breath is also a sign of a heart attack... Yeah, if it's not better, completely, tomorrow, I will be seeing a doctor. If it starts hurting worse, I'll be going in to the hospital. I don't have health care though, so the thought of going to hospital is stressful enough to cause the very thing I fear.

I ended up sleeping until 1 with multiple interruptions after taking benadryl, ibuprofen, and albuterol inhaler. I've been struggling the whole day with not letting fear stress me out beyond reason.

Stats:

Start: 2425 (I did write a bit more last night :)
Word count as of time of this post: 4623

I have nearly 1400 more words before I'm at my personal goal level, but it is time to put boys to bed and take more aspirin. I'm having fun with this work in progress. Finally! lol. It's been very hard to get anywhere with this book.

I am writing the book backwards. LOL started first chapter, got frustrated, so went to last chapter. AND IT'S WORKING :) Plus I wrote on the fun article type assignment I have. It's at the minimum word count, so now it's all gravy :)

How are you all doing on your personal goals :)

Day one

I'm writing this now because it is my youngest's birthday, and I want to be sure and get this in before the craziness begins.

Tentative title. Ghost of Kristen's Past
Genre: paranormal romance
Quick log line: A half-demon half-human fights his nature and tries to help fight for the humans he comes in contact with. He also makes it a personal quest to get together as many soulmates as he can as it upsets the demon world the most.
Day1 start: 0
Day1 at time of this post: 2,156 just 844 words shy of my 3k goal.

I'm still not done for the day--at least I plan on writing more. How are your goals for the day?

It is Monday

Monday has rolled around again. I do not know what my final numbers are but I have lots in writing on the paper edits I do. Hopefully, I will have plenty of words left over to move into this weeks word count!

I am nearly finished with tow novels as I've been focusing on them. I have another one that I scrapped and I am starting over with, otherwise, it would be three. I am so busy that writing is sort of taking a back burner, but I knew this might be a problem. My biggest problem, though, is the heat. If I had my laptop, I could go to places that were cooler to work, or sit in living room by the air conditioner. Sigh. Oh well, I am doing it by hand, which I think is elevating my work and might be something I have to incorporate more.

I already have it as my fall back. I also use it for edits. But, recently, I've seen a new flow of ideas from combining the ways that I write. I see things a bit differently. Also, I am much better with hard copy edits. Something about the computer screen allows my eyes to skim over the mistakes.

I re-read the new beginning for my paranormal series and loving it! I am very happy with how this one sounds! I'm off to do more canning and writing and studying lines...

Tomorrow, or Wednesday, I will post my schedule, as it is now, for the rest of the month, and you tell me if I'm busy:P

a funny, update

http://www.smh.com.au/national/feline-groovy-it-may-be-a-parasite-20100626-zauy.html

For a good laugh, you must read this, in order, and laugh out loud.

Update, I have over 53k on thriller (increase of approx 7k) I think I'm over 84k on the Fantasy, and I have MORE in long hand to translate! It is too hot in room to be on computer long enough to type in all the long hand I've done :D I am happy snappy about the word count because I have also canned/froze/dried/jammed 40 pounds of bing cherries! Will be picking more tomorrow and I am so looking forward to having my larder stocked with home made yummies!

Getting apricots this weekend, and hopefully, will be picking more in a few weeks! So lots of food. Peaches, pears, tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, beans, peas, corn, I'm planning on doing it all! Buwhahahahah

Good night, dear friends and think cooling wishes to me tonight!

Update

So we made it to Washington, not quite in one piece as we had two tire blow outs. We are looking for work and living near the house that burned down with Nate's great Uncle in it. It's kind of spooky. Blogs will be spotty as I can't seem to find a decent carrier to service where we are. I would have to get dial up. And I can't load my work, writing or painting, with dial up.

In the meantime, I'm trying to use different hotspots, right now McDonald's, but I can't afford to eat out all the time :(

My writing has slowed down as we have pulled stuff out of storage and tried to remember where we left everything. It's been a nightmare! One good thing is that I have my craft tools back. It's a matter of getting organized now and I will be going for it.

The day before yesterday my body crashed on me so I finished a quilt I'd started 13 years ago (long story) worked on another one I'd started 6 years ago, and organized my crossstitch. I'm still looking for stuff in my scrapbooking arena, and I don't dare bring home my easel until I have everything organized. I would never get anything done since I don't have the internet to keep me focused on my writing goals :) Plus, I have to edit more, and I needed to take a break from it anyway because it's easier to edit if you come at it fresh.

Kids all seem to be doing well, so that's a relief.
