My first interview of a fellow author Raven McAllan

Hello all you happy people. I've gone and done it. I've done an interview. Raven was a very good sport about being my guinea pig. In fact, she said I could do her. As she's in Scotland... ;) Okay, enough of the Romance writer bad joke banter. Please, welcome the great, the one and only Raven McAllan!

Hi Raven. It's great to have you back again. First, I'd like to thank you for being my guinea pig for author interviews :D Let's get a couple of traditional questions out of the way, shall we?

Great to be back, and lets go for it.

How long have you known you wanted to write?

I suspect, ever since I first realized that the crayon in my hand made words, and words made sentences…

What was your breakthrough that helped you finish that first novel?

The first one published was due to a dare by my crit group. They dared me to write it and sub it, so I did. The first ever (awful terrible cliché ridden rubbish) was because my DH bought me a computer and told me I had no excuse now.

Best writing advice to those scared to try their hand at writing?

Do it. Write as you can, not as you think you should and ignore the doubters.

Okay, those are out of the way, let's get to the good ones. *rubs hands together with glee*

Raven grabs a cup of coffee and looks worried.

What is your favorite love scene from your books? And why?

Raig on the roundabout from The Price To Pay… when she's watching him… well he just opens his mouth and the words are nectar! And ohh that smile…So combine that with his trust in her, and his actions and ohh well… you'll need to read the book *laugh*

If you're stuck on a scene, do you have a special thing you do for inspiration?

Eat chocolate, play on the net. Moan and groan… Actually I look out of my window…

What's in your nightstand?

My underwear! (sorry)

Was there a character who embarrassed you but you wrote it anyway? If so who and where can I buy the book? ;)

Do you know, I don't think there is, not really. I've written some things with my eyes closed lol, and then thought Bloody hell did I write that? But not embarrassed per se. A Most Unusual Mistress I loved writing, because she is so feisty. In To Catch A Fox, I combined all my favorite things. Shape shifters, Menage, Regency, hot men, strong woman… I have a book out on 17th (from Evernight Publishers) called A Shimmer of Silk and that did give me a few 'can I really write this' moments. Not because I'm ashamed or embarrassed, but because it was very personal to my characters! Oh and very hot! It's a sequel to Silver Silk Ties. That was the book where I really realized I can write. Oh everyone might not like it, but this is me, my voice, and I'm not ashamed of it.

On your last visit, you gave an impressive list of books. I'm thinking you're impressive and I want to be like you when I grow up. Can you adopt me and my kids? lol Seriously, you're with more than one publisher, and you have health issues that make it hard, yet, you not only prevail, but spectacularly so. HOW do you do that?

Ah thank you. *blush* Actually I've slowed down a bit now. However, I know my limitations, and when I'm okay to write I just write, and luckily DH is fine with that. If I can't type for any reason, I've now learned to accept it, and I’ll read instead. (well okay I have been known to type one fingered on occasion) I do try to do at least an hour a day though, so I don't lose the thread.

oh and consider yourself adopted lol ta xxx

You're amazing and I'm glad to have you back! *starts making out new passport application*

You're a doll xxx I'm so pleased to be here.

Here's some links for the beautiful books by Raven, but she has many, many more.

Meanwhile here's some teasers

Teaching Teacher

Finding love in a new town had not been in Seb's plans. But life has a tendency to throw you curveballs – like Ruari.

When the new head teacher walks into his bar, Ruari knows he has to have him, and damn the consequences. When lust turns to love, nothing else matters. Together they will overcome, no matter what. Or will circumstances drive them apart?

To Catch A Fox

When Eleanor was told the foxes had returned to Wilderwood she wondered, and hoped it wasn't just any old foxes. She’d spoken to no one of her week of passion with Alexander and Stanford Foxxe

The Foxxe brothers had warned her about their other lives, but Eleanor had been skeptical until that magical night where they had showed her their true selves. They shifted from human to animal; howled at the moon, and mated with her.

Now six years later, the foxes were back.

Had they come for her? If they had, would her changed circumstances alter all their plans? How would they cope with what she had become?

and

The Price To Pay

Do a friend a favor? Easy. Persuade the woman she's your soul mate? Not so easy. Does this cougar romance stand a chance?

Raig was only doing a favor for a friend. Who'd have thought the mum he was "babysitting" would turn out to be the woman of his dreams?

Raig could see their future; Vairi could only see the age difference. He may say "you are only as old as the man you feel," but she couldn't do the forever he wanted. Too many obstacles stood in their way, especially when she finds out Raig has not been telling her the truth, even though she too has secrets she's not willing to share. Can they open up and put their doubts behind them to discover how satisfying a cougar romance can be?

  3. Hi Gayl.... Well I DID try once into my phone, and what a disaster. I ramble...( it's no wonder my blog is called Raven's Ramblings) So I had to try and untangle what I'd tried to say. Nightmare. And The guy in the white van next to me nearly crashed his van into the traffic lights. (it was a sex scene, and I drive a sports car, which had the top down.)
A friend, my daughter in law and DH have all been pressed onto service at times to type for me, but I still have to go back and fiddle with it after. It's very wooden, and the characters sulk at my lack of total attention on them lol
    so it's type like crazy when I can,and sulk when I can't...

  6. I happen to know that Raven hardly - if ever - stops writing.
Including while sitting under the sun, sipping wine by the pool in South Africa.
Let's not totally discount the theory that she is an android writing machine...

  7. Aurelia sorry I missed your comment. He went a nice shade of red, and missed the traffic light by inches as he drove off at an angle!
